Akosua Boakye
Akosua is a seasoned freelance dance and movement practitioner with extensive experience in teaching people of all ages and directing across educational, theatrical, and community settings. Her dance language masterfully blends African diaspora dance forms with Western contemporary dance.
Akosua is the founder of AkomaAsa performing at Academy. She was instrumental as the Children’s Casting Director for Disney’s West End musical, The Lion King; London and the UK tour, preparing children for the musical and the world of theatre.
Akosua has over 12 years of experience delivering her practice of African diaspora dance as a Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU). In 2019, Akosua co-founded the Thea Barnes Legacy Fund (TBLF). She is also a recipient of the British Empire Medal (BEM), the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) Trailblazer Fellowship, and the One Dance UK Teaching Mentoring Programme.
